While making some new album-as-books prints this week I turfed out this rather wonderful Pelican with a fabulous cover. What's happening here? Why has that woman just been to a funeral? Why do they need two police officers to oversee an archaeological dig? And why is Liam Gallagher taking part?
The whole thing resembles a 1970s ITV drama in terms of its look and colour palette (back in the days when film was shot on film rather than video). But it also reminds me of the work of the painter Carel Weight. So many of his works show isolated figures standing out in overcast urban or semi-urban settings for reasons never explained. Like this one, entitled 'The Builders':
